Joe is a practicing architect and the founding director of Dempsey+Gannon Architects, a small team of architects and designers based in the North West.

Joe has developed a wide spectrum of work from small intimate family spaces, school pavilions, one off houses, office schemes and larger inner city centre housing developments. These have all developed alongside a keen interest in highlighting the people (during the design process) who will actually be using the building once finished.

Joe was shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects President’s Bronze medal, the President’s Silver medal and the RIBA White Rose award. For projects that identify systemic issues, dialectic relationships and the success of design relating to people and place.

Alongside practice Joe works as a research associate within a team lead by Dr Stefan White. The role has enabled Joe to investigate the liminal spaces between People, Place and Policy making. This holistic approach to understanding the fabric of ‘place’ alongside Joe’s experience in design lead practice enables a jumping between scales, mediums and potential outcomes.

Joe leads the 5th year in the &rchitecture Atelier, tutors in BA1 and coordinates the Co-Works studio space where he can be found every Wednesday to chat about anything!
