A Feminist Factory of Memories
“Exclusion is derived from fear, ignorance, and power, whilst inclusion is derived from love, compassion, and respect” – Michelle Emson.
The design of this feminist factory aims to challenge cultural norms by creating a space that celebrates Ghanaian culture and comforts the victims of the African diaspora through various activities and materials. Situated in a city that often overlooks diverse cultures, this hub becomes a beacon of cultural celebration, redefining the space to honour and integrate Ghana’s vibrant heritage.
The hub features a communal food hall, marketplace, dance pavilion, and food workshop spaces. The use of materials such as bamboo, glulam, and stone not only emphasizes sustainability but also roots the design in local craftsmanship and aesthetics, creating a culturally rich environment that mirrors the atmosphere of Ghana.
