I joined Manchester School of Architecture in June 2024. I hold a PhD in Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology (2011), a professional M.Arch from Clemson University and a BSc in Architectural Engineering from Cairo University (Egypt). I have taught, conducted research and led programs in accredited schools of architecture in the USA and the UK for 23 years, building on 14 years of overlapping professional experiences. For most levels of undergraduate and graduate students, I developed architectural and urban design studios since 2000; lecture/seminar courses in the history-theory of architecture / urbanism since 2006; building systems courses in 2012-14 and 2018-21; undergraduate / graduate dissertations in 2013 & 2017-22; as well as a range of electives. I have co-supervised two doctoral research dissertations and served on progression panels (UK system) for other doctoral projects. I am a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. Moreover, I have professional practice experience in a global context - specifically in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and in collaboration with US firms. At Community Design Collaborative (CDC) in Cairo, established by the late A.I. Abdelhalim, I worked on large-scale planning and design projects including the New Campus of the American University in Cairo, and the urban rehabilitation of Historic Cairo for the United Nations Development Program and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, a project I The resume of my own practice in Cairo includes several built works and projects. My leadership experience includes serving as Director for the Master of Architecture (RIBA Part 2) and MA in Advanced Architectural Design programs at the University of Huddersfield (UK), 2018-2021; as Director of the BA(Hons) Architecture (RIBA Part 1) at Birmingham Institute of Art & Design (BCU, UK), 2011-2014; and as Co-coordinator of the Firstyear Foundation program at Kennesaw State University (KSU, USA), 2006-08.
