About our research
We believe that cities should enhance health and wellbeing, and incorporate equality, diversity and inclusion in their communities.
Cities are complex social-ecological systems. As they shift to net zero energy, they need trans-disciplinary thinking and working. They must also build resilience to a range of global challenges.
To meet overarching UN Sustainable Development Goals, this process should be inclusive, moving beyond simply providing new and improved technologies. It requires a thorough understanding of complex socio-spatial dynamics to ensure just transitions.
Our group brings together researchers in architecture, urban design, geography and landscape architecture. They collaboratively investigate issues such as:
- Implementing nature-based solutions.
- Retrofitting approaches for energy efficiency and resilience.
- New urban realms.
We aim to deliver practical and applicable research that is co-produced with key stakeholders from policy, business, and communities.
Our research themes
