The group, consisting of 36 academics and practitioners from ten cities across the world, seeks to explore the interdisciplinary connections between Southern Urbanism and Complexity Theories of Cities. The network aims to support research into sustainable, context-sensitive societal transitions, addressing urban diversity and socio-political conflicts while considering the impact of technology-driven change.

Prof Ulysses Sengupta, who leads the [CPU]Lab at MSA and is one of the coordinators of the ComplexSouth network, adds:

“Through this new research network, I look forward to collectively challenging existing North-South research dynamics through the interdisciplinary possibilities of bridging Southern Urbanism and Complexity Theories of Cities.”

[CPU]Lab is part of A3RO, a research group based at MSA focused on applied architectural research that addresses global grand challenges. For queries about [CPU]Lab or the ComplexSouth network, please contact Prof. Ulysses Sengupta.
