Living Lab

From the perspective of visitors, my project narrates the experience of a green technology educational tour at the Living Lab situated on the shores of Derwentwater, following the designated tour routes.

In the context of environmental issues and the climate change crisis, Cumbria also faces significant environmental challenges. From flooding caused by extreme climate, to land degradation caused by agricultural practices and pollution from once thriving industrial activities, all need to be urgently addressed. In response, Cumbria has actively put forward policies aimed at supporting sustainable development and achieving zero carbon targets through a variety of green technologies. So what do these technologies and policies mean for the public? This is the origin of my design concept. By integrating education into tourism, the Living Lab aims to expand the spread of green technology ideas among the public and increase the credibility of various sustainable technologies. Through this project, it is aimed to encourage tourists to incline towards sustainable lifestyles at the end of their journeys. In addition, the Living Lab aims to provide a platform and support for exploring more green technologies through the diversification of the tourism industry.

With the concept of educational tourism at the core of the brief, the project was built around the design principles of promoting biodiversity, being inclusive and open, responding to and enhancing climate impacts, adopting renewable energy sources, and sustainable modes of transport accessibility.
