Todmorden is a town with a long history and many historical buildings. But flooding, ageing and especially economic problems after the epidemic are what the town is experiencing at the moment.
So I wanted to change the status quo through residents‘ activities and architects’ design interventions.
We delved into the symbiotic relationship between urban functionality and spatial purpose. So we chose a derelict site on the edge of the town to create a second centre for the town, linking up with the current town centre and leading to the overall development of the regional economy and resident participation.
The current town centre is predominantly commercial, so the second centre uses the education centre as an entry point, focusing on the next generation and providing more educational opportunities, activity spaces and job opportunities. Tapping into the resilience of the edge of the town.
In crafting the design, we harmonize traditional architectural motifs with contemporary elements, bridging the past with the future. This synthesis not only pays homage to the town's heritage but also ensures the adaptability and relevance of the new edifice in an ever-evolving town.
