Greenpulse+ Community Hub
The West Energy Coast initiative presents a visionary architectural proposal that embodies a comprehensive integration of sustainable energy generation, advanced transportation systems, and community-focused facilities, all within the context of Lake District National Park, East and West Cumbria. This proposal envisions a dynamic hub that utilises renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power to meet the community’s energy demands while contributing excess power to the national grid. Critical to this initiative is the development of an Integrated Energy and Transportation Hub that includes facilities for automated vehicles (AVs) and a sophisticated ride-sharing platform, sAVe, which addresses the limited public transportation options in the rural settings of Cumbria.
Further enhancing its community engagement, the proposal outlines the creation of an EV Charging and Entertainment Zone that doubles as a drive-in cinema, transforming the mundane task of vehicle charging into a social and cultural event. Fast-charging stations and digital event scheduling platforms equip this zone. Designed to offer workshops, exhibitions, and events that promote sustainable energy practices, the hub also features a Community Engagement and Educational Centre at its core. Additionally, it includes experimental green energy sites that educate visitors on clean energy technologies.
The hub serves as a catalyst for regional development economically, creating new job opportunities in the green energy sector and promoting a sense of community ownership and pride in sustainable developments. These initiatives are expected to provide a stable source of income for locals, reduce reliance on seasonal tourism, and enhance social cohesion.
