Todmorden Story Lab
The Todmorden Story Lab is a place of exploration, education and research. A place to celebrate the culture of Todmorden. Aided by the knowledge of the Continuity Atelier the building focuses on creating a space that takes inspiration from its surroundings with a modern agenda, creating a beacon of light for the town. The unique layout of the building expands on the concept of a ‘spiral of encounters’ where the building’s natural flow guides visitors around a series of ramps and level changes allowing the full potential of the building to be realised.
Inspired by the landscape of the valley, its rock-like shape represents the solidity of the building in the future of the town and symbolises the strength of the community. The glowing marble facade shows how the library will become a beacon for the community and is aimed at showing off the hub of activity to passing trains.
The project has allowed me to explore my interests in placemaking, Community-led projects, and Urban Design with a passion for creating mixed-use developments. I have a strong focus on creating unique yet functional spaces that result in new destinations for both the communities they serve and tourist opportunities.
