Hope Street Care at the Mental Health Marina

An integrated in-patient and community mental healthcare centre in Todmorden, proposed as a case study within a wider decentralised model of facilities, designed to tackle the current prevalent relocations to distant, high-density centres, due to a lack of local facilities.

Inspired by an analysis of Todmorden’s landscape and people, and by practicing a phenomenological  approach  to  design, the Mental Health Marina utilises the potential of biophilia, topophilia, and re-integration of the Rochdale Canal as a catalyst for bettering community health. The proposal provides both clinical and holistic care in one place, to enhance the quality of life for patients by offering a cohesive therapeutic, safe, and secure environment.

Hope Street Care embeds mental healthcare into the daily fabric of the community, promoting positive community practices for better mental  health, well-being and resilience.
