Farm Stockpiling Co-operative: Food Centre for Farmers in the North Pennines
The North Pennines region in Cumbria is known for its diverse habitats and thriving working landscape. Within this region, High Nature Value (HNV) farming is practiced, which is less-intensive but not low-maintenance. Due to high farm managerial costs and limited agricultural yield, profit margins are minimal. To build economic resilience, the project focuses on creating stockpiles for farm inputs and outputs and diversifying income streams. This could support farmers in facing challenges such as market volatility, low soil quality, poor harvest seasons, and unpredictable weather patterns.
