Living archive

The project starts with a tangible connection with the town and  its architecture. The scheme is meant to be bridge between  ageing population in the town and a digitalized era: not only the digitalization of some of Todmorden’s artefacts, but also   an accessible archive of materials to the public.

The building is split into two blocks connected by main staircase and  atrium space, all enveloped by a collage of architectural memories of the town. Design and development evolves around fire safety, accessibility , structural stability and energy efficiency. Barrel roof form helps improve energy efficiency. Its fragmented configuration sprouts from spatial and structural arrangements below. Technical challenges mainly come from the roof form and support.
