The Listening Library
My listening library embodies Continuity’s agenda with a modern twist, introducing innovative solutions for a versatile, long-lasting and communal library space. Embracing new technologies such as podcasts, audio-books and music, this agenda aims to carve out a dedicated space in Todmorden where these mediums can be celebrated and promoted, thereby ensuring the library’s relevance for future generations. Despite the emphasis on listening-based programs, the importance of books is still recognised, with tranquil areas created for focused concentration (reading, listening, learning) and lively spaces for group activities; fostering learning through auditory experiences. Furthermore, the library is poised to evolve into Todmorden’s primary technology hub, offering free Wifi, computer stations, and headphone rentals, all the while maintaining a soothing ambiance with the use of a timber structure and furnishings. Dedicated headsets are also available in the reception area, which provide a tour of Todmorden’s landmarks, honouring the town’s rich heritage.
