In response to the evolving dynamics of Stockport’s urban landscape the proposed building aims to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, creating a space for education and collaboration in technology. As the town undergoes significant redevelopment, a potential divide emerges between the “old” and “new” Stockport, manifested in new developments, namely office and residential complexes around the train station. Its proximity to major cities in the Northwest of the UK draws in more working individuals from nearby areas. However, with this growth comes the risk of potentially losing its identity and becoming overshadowed by larger cities in the area. The proposed building aims to address these challenges by creating social spaces dedicated to hands-on learning in digital skills, encouraging collaboration, and facilitating networking. The project’s concept is a deliberate response to the environment, taking into consideration Stockport’s dynamic topography, the extensive demolition of older structures, as well as the site’s proximity to key civic buildings in the area. It aims to create a more inclusive and welcoming space that meets the needs of Stockport, ultimately striving to establish the town as an independent center for innovation.
