Metamorphia
‘These spaces pulse with the natural rhythm of life, guided by the winds whimsy. By reflecting nature and the shapes colours and textures which we have been feasting our eyes upon since the beginning of time Metamorphia will encourage the parasympathetic nervous system to switch on.’ Leela Maguire 2024
Growing up limited opportunities was a common place for myself and my community in Liverpool, with minimum wage, multiple jobs or none at all as the norm. I have seen my fair share of mental and physical suffering and first-hand experience of the traumas that can reshape a young person's mind and life.
After a severe adversity at age 13, my Auntie advised me the only way out of this reality was through education, with much grit and determination I began my adventure of finding ways to bring support back to my community through getting leverage in the built environment.
The journey has been far from easy, with past traumas presenting various challenges along the way with my artistic outlets as my regulators. My routine was inspired by Carl Jung’s journey of individuation, with reflection and shadow work as my tools curated into a cycle of learning and unlearning I am closer ever to my own self-realisation.
Metamorphia is the spatial manifestation of this journey a model applicable to any building or community. This thesis showcases an example at Mayfield, developed in collaboration with Landsec U+I. Head developer Martyn Evans described it as impactful enough to be built immediately, highlighting its potential for community transformation.
Metamorphia represents a vision of human-centric community development. It’s a space that provides safety and support, fostering inner journeys and personal growth. This project is my contribution to creating environments where people can thrive, reflecting my commitment to authentic community development.
