i need to flush diaspora !!
‘i need to flush diaspora !! ‘ is a thesis project and a personal journey which unpacks and explores the effects of diaspora on a British Indian migrant’s self-identity. In attempts to collapse the effects of diaspora, the thesis focused on diasporic repair of being in between 2 cultures through the concept of hybridization.
In the early stages of the development of this thesis, this was done through the use of art methods, following the rules of cyclic actions of fragmentation via deconstruction to create a form of reconstruct. Through the hybridization of architecture and forming a new archetype. Moving into the resolved and established stages of the thesis, an emphasis on packaging the new wave of architecture developed through research and resolved through ethnographic studies was prioritised, ensuring the bridging of displacement between home and host nation. My thesis is focused on Soho Road currently known as ‘Little India’ and is designed for the British Indian migrant community to help fight the struggles of diaspora.
Through a series of outputs produced, I explore themes of diasporic relief brought through hybridization and reinvention of architecture; through maximising existing spaces and processing empowerment through Indian culture, I steer to help form a new hybrid self-identity for many fragmented British Indian migrants.
