Business Community
Situated in West Cumbria on a park-and-ride site for Sellafield (a nuclear plant), this project responds to the needs of users of the current site as well as addressing the significant issues with the current climate.
I proposed a business space on site where Sellafield workers could work away from an unsafe decommissioning nuclear site. Other public library and study spaces have been implemented, allowing for expanded use of the site. In such a distant and disconnected area of the UK, connectivity is crucial. The site aims to offer business and employment opportunities by providing quality facilities to workers and the public.
The main areas of the site are divided into two key spaces: public and private. A movable wall system is implemented in each open office space to allow for flexible design spaces adhering to the users own needs and requirements for the area. This flexible layout is sustainable as it can be changed and moved around to suit future needs and users regardless of occupation or use, which reduces the need to deconstruct or construct buildings for different purposes.
To conclude, my project challenges the use of interior spaces to create flexible and sustainable design layouts by incorporating unique and specialised systems.
