The Todmorden Contemporary Library
The Todmorden Contemporary Library prioritises the conservation of local history, utilising it as a tool to instill awareness amongst communities. The library takes centre stage while its surrounding masterplan responds to its several focus spaces emphasised through facade details. The library’s facade is a result of a thorough contextual analysis of the site, themed around ‘A playful recreation of the past’, informing the scheme’s embellished utility: the Ornamental Solar Shading Panels spanning across the fin facade’s curtain walling that take inspiration from the neoclassical motifs, present on the Town Hall’s Cornicing. The Arched facade of the Archives Library also takes inspiration from the arched tracing on the town hall’s facade, enlarged for the masterplan’s interaction with the exhibition area.
