My final studio project: Boxing Against Crime is a community boxing gym with the aim of reducing youth crime in Burnley. Boxing clubs provide positive male role models and are a safe outlet for teens and young adults. The goal is to create a more inclusive Burnley and help unify the youth through boxing.
My atelier, &rchitecture, focusses on social inequality and repairing disparity through sustainable community projects and built environment. Being a part of this atelier has helped me develop my position as a designer. The most important lesson the atelier tutors taught me was to consider the wider impact of projects, especially when working at a small community scale.
Designing for a circular economy has been my key driver this year: designing out waste, considering end-of-life uses for materials and designing for longevity. My technologies detail project allowed me to hone in on the details of my envelope system - considering each layer individually and how they can be constructed and deconstructed with ease. I believe this is the way forward for architecture and the built environment.
