My AND architecture project : 'Diverse Garden of Burnley' is historical fabric industry outdoor exhibition and workshop -as the pride and legacy of Burnley
The project's location is in Burnley which is a part of Lancashire. The site is in ‘Sandygate’ which is historical fabric industry in Burnley. The site existing consists of Newtown Mills building that is conserved by government in building list II .Also, the site is next to Leeds and Liverpool canal that used to be the main industrial-product transportation. The site is surrounded by communities. In term of environmental issues, post industrialisation comes up with contaminated soil. The way out for contaminated soil is using phytoremediation process to help hold heavy metals in soil, thus the project is carried out this process.
The highlights of the project are the fabric-produced vegetation exhibition and fabric produced workshops to create the job opportunity for the community and gather people together. In addition, the design brings back identity of fabric industry by creating ‘Mill Race’ which is the waterway of industrialisation. The design development of the project is relied on the massive natural topography of the site. All design elements response history of site, Burnley community, site ecology to become the pride and legacy of Burnley.
