Alcohol planning with libertarian paternalism
Liverpool, England
How to define the boundary between areas with a high crime rate and areas with a low crime rate?
How to find a balance between personal drinking and national prohibition?
How to reduce alcohol-related crime in high crime areas to improve the perception of safety?
This project fabricates a fictional context of the near future when the spread of alcohol leads to high violent crime and high hospitalization rates in Liverpool. A citywide policy of Libertarian paternalism alcohol planning is implemented. It delineates a radical yet possible tomorrow scenario, how to keep a balance between personal drinking and urban security under a hypothesized new normal. The purpose of this project is to change the micro-environment of drinking place through libertarian paternalism strategies and improve people’s decision about drinking alcohol, which reduce the risk of alcohol-related crime.
