The Amazon fire and COVID-19 brought to my attention on man and nature and importance of forest schools. The concept of a forest school can be traced back to the outdoor learning experience in England in the 19th century. At the moment, most English forest schools are pre-school, encouraging children to grow up in nature. But this is not my ideal forest school.
This project will take China as an example to explore the possibility of integrating forest schools with Chinese cultures such as farming culture and traditional academy culture. The school will take the form of an academy, based on an agriculture culture, and open to all the people. Meanwhile, it will encourage people to learn about traditional handicrafts and to advocate protecting nature, and return to nature. It will be a new kind of forest school with Chinese characteristics.
