Embedded to a time in which climate change requires imminent independent action, The Metropolitan Lungs is an attempt to redefine social housing and repurpose it in its new context.
The project is based on the concept of the 4Rs. The first R stands for Regard. Regard for individuality and for respect towards all identities. In this respect, the residential complex offers a variety of housing floorplans.
However, aiming for housing to be mere sheltering would be an act of neglect towards the context it sits in. While the city is the main instigation of climate change, it can also be its resolution. The last 3 Rs adopt the sustainability dogma; Reduce, Recycle, Reuse. The project thus also looks in parallel into designed mechanisms to reduce air pollution, reuse grey and rainwater, and recycle residential waste.
