The Dairy Industry Is Slowly Dying, Why ?

Currently dairy farms in the UK have reached a record low, with only 7,010 producers remaining from the previous year due to the problems of high tax, overregulation, and low supermarket milk prices. In St. Cuthbert’s Garden Village, the local dairy farmer is facing the same problems but in a slightly different situation. Recently, the local council decided that, in order to improve and push forward the local economy, a brand-new local community has been drafted; however, in this flourishing plan, there’s “no space” for the local dairy farm, an awkward position that not only the farmer is facing from those financial problems but also the lack of welcome from the community where they used to belong. So I decide to look into the current site plan, trying to find out the reasons why the farmer is not included in the community plan and from that to create an essential solution that benefits both the local council and also the local dairy farm.Nomadic Farm is a dairy lab aiming to combine those three fundamental elements behind the dairy (local farmer, milk factory, and local market) into one component that not only provides a cheaper solution but also a platform to mark their own price and create a “new” identity for tourism and job opportunities for younger generations.

Identity is not created from a blank slate; it emerges from those who have long inhabited and shaped a place.
