CONTEST
CONTEST is a component-based modular build system designed for safe drug consumption & drug education outside of institutional control. Encouraging self-expression & collaborative construction, the project aims to challenge the urban stance on the displacement of already established PWUDs (People Who Use Drugs) by incrementally establishing permanence in contested urban spaces using temporary means to empower & rehumanise stigmatised communities.
Along with encouraging administrative support from drug health & welfare organisations, this project aims to explore the possibilities for drug policy reform through an architectural lens by providing safe spaces for wellness, education and experimentation of health & drug policies in multiple sets & settings.
My work is heavily inspired from my discoveries from my preceding dissertation about psychedelics in MArch 1, in which I realised just how much The War on Drugs affects architecture on an social and urban scale, and it requires creatives from various disciplines to continuously experiment with the most appropriate ways to challenge drug policy and enforcement and advocacy for rehumanising communities, as well as responsible drug consumption for creative exploration between realms of consciousness.
