PROJECT 13.15. Caring for Salford’s Homeless Teenagers.

The project proposes a community centre for homeless teenagers aged 13–15 in Salford, addressing a critical gap in support for young people experiencing homelessness in Greater Manchester.

Located adjacent to Project 34, the centre will provide emergency accommodation alongside holistic services, including mental health support, food provision, counselling, and independent living skills training.

The design is founded on a community-engaged approach, placing young people at the heart of the decision-making process to create spaces that respond to their needs, aspirations, and lived experiences.

Through active participation in shaping the building, users will help create an environment that promotes identity, belonging, and pride while reducing social exclusion. Sustainable design principles will guide material selection, prioritising natural, locally sourced, and reclaimed resources where possible.

Flexible semi-private rooms, recreational open spaces, and a dedicated counselling area will create a safe and supportive environment, empowering vulnerable young people to thrive, develop independence, and build a more positive future.
