This has been an exciting year for the Architectural Digital Design (ADD) team, as our work continues to grow across the full breadth of MSA. This year, ADD has contributed to all programmes in MSA, supporting students through embedded teaching, open workshops, one-to-one tutorials, and specialist digital guidance.

Our teaching spans the essential and emerging skills shaping architectural education and practice, from technical drawing, 3D modelling, visualisation, and BIM, to design computation, coding, digital fabrication, environmental simulation, and AI workflows. At its core, ADD is about helping students build confidence, curiosity, and agency with digital tools as ways of thinking, making, testing, and communicating architectural ideas.

This year has also seen major developments in MSA’s digital infrastructure. The introduction of an automated laptop loan system strengthens our commitment to digital equity, while new high-performance computing facilities open up ambitious possibilities for visualisation, simulation, machine learning, and computational design. These resources build on our CAD labs, remote access computing, VR, iPads, environmental monitoring equipment, drones, and industry-standard software.

A significant focus has been the centralisation and redesign of digital teaching resources through DELTA, improving accessibility for neurodiverse learners, reducing duplication, and creating a clearer, more consistent learning environment. We are also delighted to congratulate Anastasiya Luban on her new role as Skills Lead, strengthening the alignment between analogue and digital literacies across programmes.

Looking ahead, we are especially excited to be developing the new MA Architecture & Digital Design, due to launch in September 2027. Building on ADD’s three-pillar approach of design computation, digital fabrication, and visualisation, the programme will formalise this ethos through critical theory, applied practice, and speculation on architecture after the digital turn.

Finally, heartfelt thanks go to our Graduate Teaching Assistants Alexandra Iordache, Aparna Jayanti, Eva Lippett, and Zhuoqin Zhang (Lawrence), whose energy, expertise, and care have made a fantastic contribution this year.
