{Re}Identify Crewe

The project aims to bring a identity to the town of Crewe, who have been losing touch of their industrial and cultural past. This loss has contriubuted to the towns demise and the lack of pride the local residents have for their own town.  My porjcet aims to assess fix this by utilisng the geothermal potential that is hidden under Crewe, allowing for sustainable energy production and suggesting prosperity.

The actual project is located on the outskirts of town and centres around the geothermal power station that would become the largest one of its kind in the world, producing enough energy to provide the whole town with free energy. Sublime architecture was the inspiration as this feat of engineering mirrors the natural worlds sublime powers, with the forms being derived from the original railway industry buildings that formed the very start of Crewe.  Within the building it will house many different programmes, like education, research and exhibitions, with the main use of the inside being a rainforest that the geothermal heat allows. The second part of the project utilises the geothermal potential to create a spa hotel that blends into the landscape in order let the power station supply the main source of visual identity. Internally it matcges the power oif the geothermal origins by  creating a cavernous and relaxing atmosphere.

The whole project aims to elicit a new identity that will propel the town forward while also facing may longstanding issues that the town faces, from unemployment to fuel poverty and lack of utilisation of the skills of the town’s workers. Overall, the project has the ability to be transformative for all the residents and those who interact with it.
