Learning Through Action

The Learning Through Action Library of   Todmorden functions as a community space where people can learn the craft of bookbinding by recycling pre-loved books, donated by the local community. The main drivers were taking three of Todmorden’s community action groups and giving them a home in the centre of Todmorden, with the role of teaching bookbinding in the form of workshops, which would involve the community in the reuse of their books. The building follows a clear process that aims to be recycled and reused time again like the books that the library stores. The idea is that people can donate pre-loved and damaged books and through the help of the Action groups, they learn how to bind the books and as a result learn more about the process of reuse. Once fixed, those books are then circulated back into the building for people to read and enjoy.
