Boutique Living Unit

The history of the concession in Tianjin has brought together a variety of styles of architecture there, especially dense on The Five Avenues. However, there is no cozy hotels for tourists to stay in this area, so Minyuan Terrace was chosen. That is an old residential building in the centre of the area, as a sample to design a hotel module to enrich the tourism value there.

The main body of the building is created as a mirrored modular row house, consisting of 17 independent units. The design concepts are based on Kandinsky's study of point, line and surface, and de-decorated brutalism, echoing the diverse architectural styles of the neighbourhood.

The design runs through the front and back yards on the ground floor and is divided into four distinctive rooms with a lobby by two north-south facing walls, optimising the circulation, and enhancing the interest of the entrances and exits. The left and right room structures were mirrored. The square, round and triangular forms echo each other. The patios enhance the verticality of the rooms. The light is carefully planned to lighten the walls and achieve a sense of permeability while protecting privacy. To make one comfortable living space.
