The Halo: Where Nature Inspires Architecture
What if learning spaces could be reimagined? What if research could be perceived through a new lens? These were the driving forces behind the creation of 'The Halo'—a design that embodied my architectural vision. From the outset, sustainability, forward-thinking concepts, and the creation of diverse experiences guided my design process.
Drawing inspiration from the seamless integration of nature and innovation, I carefully selected sustainable materials such as corten steel, timbercrete, and wood to blend harmoniously with Manchester's iconic material-red bricks. These materials not only paid homage to the city's heritage but also aligned with the principles of biophilia and future thinking set forth by our CPU brief. Sustainability remained at the core of my design choices, allowing for boundless creativity to thrive.
At the heart of The Halo, free multi-use spaces took centre stage. By incorporating foldable walls and adaptable layouts, I created a dynamic environment that could adapt to the ever-evolving needs of its users. These flexible areas encouraged collaboration, nurtured creativity, and sparked exploration, empowering individuals to shape their own unique experiences within the space.
A standout feature of my design was the embrace of the arboreal canopies that enveloped the courtyard space. This outdoor sanctuary provided a serene retreat, inviting people to escape the virtual realm and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. Thoughtfully selected greenery further enhanced the experience, creating a harmonious sanctuary that complemented the cutting-edge technology inside while harmonizing with Manchester's distinct weather conditions.
The design seamlessly integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering innovation and prioritizing human-centric design. It ignited curiosity, forged connections, and encouraged the exploration of new possibilities. Through 'The Halo,' I aimed to showcase my unwavering dedication to design, biophilia, and forward-thinking ideas. This project stood as a testament to pushing boundaries, creating transformative spaces that inspire and uplift both viewers and users alike.
