The Forge is my thesis project completed in collaboration with Michael O’Reilly, Maxine Zhou and Yaseen Bhatti. The project is set in space in the near future, when asteroid mining has become a booming industry. The Forge is designed to be a temporary living and working place for 2000 asteroid miners and their essential supporting staffs. We approached the design by fully understanding the difference between urban environments in space and cities on earth. We thus proposed an aggregated modular system that takes advantage of growth and adaption in 4 dimensions. We utilized computational algorithm to reconfigure and evaluate the aggregated system according to redefined walkability, proximity and accessibility in a 3-dimentional urban environment.
