The Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) has been named as one of the best in the world in the QS Subject Rankings 2017.

MSA, a joint school between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester, is ranked 6th in the world and 2nd in the UK.

The prestigious league table ranks subjects from universities across the world and features the top 200 architecture courses from across the globe. They are based upon academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.

MSA is consistently cited as one of the best architecture schools in the UK and offers a range of professionally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Excel

Professor Tom Jefferies, Head of MSA, added: “The MSA is rightly considered an innovative place for students to immerse themselves in the study of architecture. The latest QS subject rankings are a wonderful affirmation of the quality of resources, teaching, research and architectural practice links that form part of the School.

“We are very pleased to be ranked 6th in the world and this quality is evidenced in our architects who go on to excel in practice and research, forming part of our respected community of graduates.”

Located half a mile from the city centre, MSA is an innovative collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester, uniting two schools of architecture with more than 100 years of educational experience to create one of the largest architecture schools in the UK.

MSA has gained a reputation for the variety, vitality and quality of the work and achievements of its students. This is reflected in appraisals by the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute for British Architects.

Opportunities

Architectural research at the MSA is intrinsically interdisciplinary and broadly conceived, encompassing areas as diverse as urban design, urban development, ecological and landscape design, and the conservation and management of historic environments.

The opportunities for collaborative architectural research across the two universities are unparalleled and research bids in a variety of disciplines are strengthened by the involvement of strong architectural researchers.

Both the postgraduate research and postgraduate taught programmes draw inspiration from its research activity and students are encouraged to actively take part in the research culture of the school.
